Hunan Lido is proud to have participated in drafting the national standard GB/T 44834-2024 Water-Based Paper and Paperboard for Food Packaging. The national standard was officially approved and released on October 26, 2024, and will come into effect on May 1, 2025. It marks a new phase in the application of water-based paper materials for food packaging in China.
This standard is overseen by TC397 (Materials and Articles in Contact with Foodstuff) and executed by TC397SC3 (National Food Direct Contact Materials and Products Standardization Technical Committee). The governing body is the China National Light Industry Council. The standard was jointly drafted by the China National Pulp and Paper Research Institute, Ltd., Ningbo Asia Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd., Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd., Hunan Lido Environmental Science and Technology Co., Ltd., and other companies.
The purpose of GB/T 44834-2024 Water-Based Paper and Paperboard for Food Packagingis to standardize the technical requirements, testing methods, inspection rules, packaging, labeling, andstorage for water-based paper and paperboard used for food packaging. It aims to level up the quality of domestic products, reduce environmental pollution, and meet market demand. Technical requirements include grammage deviation, cross-directional thickness variation, water absorption, oil resistance, heat seal strength, wetting tension, leakage performance, recyclability, and moisture content at delivery, which apply to water-based paper and paperboard for food packaging.
National standards are the key guidelines for regulating all aspects of enterprise production, development, and management, and are the primary basis for evaluating product quality.
